i want to share a perspective, with everyone that comes here to read, for i feel it will take some of us in a new direction.

perhaps it will allow for some creative thinking and interesting discussion or maybe it simply wont go anywhere.

it does not really matter either way, for there are subjects which can only be speculated on and thoughts which can only be shared.

the may 15 2000 watchtower page 4 indicated that scholars at the jesus seminar had concluded that 82% of all the words attributed to jesus in the gospels were not authentic but 'derived from later tradition'.. it is difficult to say for yourself but i do find it remarkable that pauls letters do not contain any references to jesus' life, history or more importantly his teachings.

the sermon the mount, lords prayer or the golden rule etc.

do not get a mention in his words to fledgling congregations.

god tested abraham by telling him to sacrafice his son issac.

since god is omniscient (knows all, knows the end from the beginning) he already knew abraham would go through with it unless god stopped him.

what was the purpose of this test?.

I think everyone here has missed the point to this story. . .

This account foreshadows and supports the ambivalence constantly expressed by the WT.

First god tells Abraham to perform a blood sacrifice, then later he tells Israel to abstain from such sacrifices as were customary to Marduuk and Baal. . .

kinda makes you wonder where they got the idea in the first place, no?

To Rick on H2O...

i just posted this on h2o and though i'd put a copy here as well.... hi rick,.

i just thought it may be appropriate for me to express my appreciation for your site and what you have accomplished over the last few years and i'm sure will continue to do.. like many others, h2o was one of the sites which helped to open my eyes to the watchtower society and beliefs and practices of jehovahs witnesses and realise that there were things seriously wrong which a lot of other people saw as well - it wasn't just limited to our local congregation.. i did participate on h2o occasionally as caliban but never really kept up-to-date with all the posters, personalities and what was going on between them.. the reason i decided to create an alternative forum, www.jehovahs-witness.com, was because at the time it appeared that the very pro-jw community was well served by witnet and the anti-jw's had h2o but that it may have been a bit too much for the 'mildly curious' jw to visit.

my idea was to have a forum more like witnet which would gradually allow more open discussion than was allowed there without being too off putting to many as a way of introducing the issues to them more gently.. i'm sure your views and standpoints have changed over the years and mine have too.

Celebrate with me today

today, april 20th, is the fourth anniversary of a very special day in my life.. the anniversary of my rebirth.. this rebirth was not a religious experience, but it was something totally pure, amazing and healing.. it had nothing at all to do with the society, or rather, of freeing myself from it.

it was however, a giant first step in that direction.. today is the fourth anniversary of the day i got letter that changed everything.

the words on the pages were alive, and magical: they released me from my old life and for the first time.

Strewth Sheila, It's OK To Have A Grope Ain't It?

can someone please tell me exactly what constitutes a df'ing offence?.

i recently read a post where someone said that they were df'd for committing "adultery in the heart", someone else for gambling, someone else for smoking etc etc.

it's all very puzzling, back in the 60's the wtbts had a down on "petting and necking" but it wasn't df'able.

i remember being four years old and going to spain one summer. my mom and her friends, along with the brothers/sisters she had met were drinking wine during their lunch at a convention. it was being served and it was optional, the reason i remember this, is because for years my mom kept repeating the story as well as the one when she went on field service in spain in order to experience the difference, as if there really were one, and they stopped at a local pub for a drink after service. . . the year was 1974.

not that you can get df'd for this, but i would have loved to have gone to a pub after service here in NY, in fact i would have spent more time in service if that would have been an option. . .

another difference that i remember is that growing up in a spanish speaking congregation we were not allowed to have any type of beards of gotees, mustaches were the extent of facial hair.

yet i knew brothers in the english speaking ones that did have beards and these were tolerated. in the spanish hall we would have been reproved for imitating the world, or trying to look like jesus. . .

i guess its up to the totalitarian state of mind of the PO in the particular hall you attend. . .
